Hollow Stem Drilling and Push Probe Environmental Drilling

environmental drilling

We provide quality environmental drilling and direct push services in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

ENVIRONMENTAL DRILLING SERVICES

We are experts in environmental drilling and direct push services.

Environmental Logistics Company offers hollow stem auger and direct push drilling. We conduct environmental drilling and direct push services for soil, soil gas, and groundwater sampling, including discrete and representative sampling. Our environmental drilling auger practices provide clean, accurate samples to determine the existence of contaminants in soil or groundwater.

We set ourselves apart from other environmental drilling and direct push service companies because we know what clients require, and expect, to perform legally defensible environmental investigations. Because the field staff is managed by environmental professionals, clients are assured of excellent service and proven field techniques.

Our equipment includes two of Central Mining Equipment's 75HT drilling rigs along with Geoprobe's 7700, 6620, 6600, 5410, 5400, and 4220 direct push rigs on truck-mounted and track-mounted carriers. With our CME and Geoprobe equipment we can install hollow stem auger and direct push borings in practically any location.

We are licensed to drill in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas.

HOLLOW STEM AUGER

Hollow stem auger drilling is one of the most effective and efficient environmental drilling and soil sampling method. The auger drilling can easily be used in silt, clay and sandy soils. There are two types of auger drilling: hollow stem auger and solid flight auger. ELC utilizes hollow stem auger drilling. Soil sampling is done by lowering split spoon samplers on drill rods through the open center part of the auger while drilling. Hollow stem augers are commonly used for environmental soil sampling and ground water monitor well installations in industrial and commercial settings.

DIRECT PUSH

Direct Push Subsurface Sampling Technology was pioneered by Geoprobe in 1987. Direct push drilling is a technique where steel boring rods, coupled with percussion force and static force, are driven into the subsurface. Direct push tools do not remove cuttings from the probe hole but depend on compression of soil or rearrangement of soil particles to permit advancement for the tool string.

The Geoprobe machine accommodates several sampling tools that can be readily attached to the boring rods in order to collect groundwater samples, soil and soil-gas samples. They are also utilized to install small diameter wells.

SOIL BORING INSTALLATION

Soil borings are used by consultants and other entities for environmental and geological subsurface investigations. When a property owner or a company needs to see if there are any problems with soil or groundwater contamination, soil borings are used to collect samples pulled from the different layers to test for contaminant levels. When trying to assess the geological formations beneath the ground, soil boring installations allow the use of samples from different places to get a holistic picture of the subsurface geology.

MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION

Monitoring groundwater is critical for determining if contamination has occurred and for measuring groundwater levels in a defined area. This type of monitoring is done for private, government, and industrial entities.

A monitoring well can be installed inside of hollow-stem augers with little concern for the caving potential of the soils. There are three types of monitoring wells, generally: shallow piezometers; water-table wells; and groundwater monitoring wells. Monitoring wells need to be installed by professionals to meet legal and regulatory standards.

RECOVERY WELL INSTALLATION

Groundwater is the source of about a third of the water that counties and cities depend on to to supply households and businesses. It can easily be contaminated by man-made products such as: gasoline, pesticides and industrial chemicals. Recovery wells are used to extract the contaminated groundwater and free product on a long-term or short-term basis. The well can vary in size from 1” to 8”, which depends on site conditions, depth to groundwater, subsurface lithology, and the drilling method utilized.

Because every drill site is different based on lithology, regulatory requirements, budgets, and safety concerns, the installation of recovery wells vary. The free product or dissolved product may be treated and disposed according to state and federal regulations, or, if the recovered product is a viable commodity, it can be reintroduced into the refining process.

INVESTIGATIVE-DERIVED WASTE (IDW) CONTAINMENT

The regulations around the disposal of investigative-derived drilling waste (IDW) requires consultants and drillers to take a proactive role in waste management methods. The proper drilling waste containment methods, combined with drilling advances, allow consultants and drillers to get maximum production while having the minimum environmental impact.

PLUGGING AND ABANDONMENT

There are literally hundreds of thousands of wells scattered across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. When drilled, all the wells had a purpose. Today, many are still active. The majority, however, are inactive and often abandoned. Properly plugging a well is imperative to protect the subsurface.

When you need a well plugged safely, efficiently and economically, call ELC. We have the experience and equipment to do your plugging work.

SONIC AIR KNIFE AND HYDRO-JETTING

With our sonic air knife and hydro-jetting equipment ELC has the capability to safely explore around utilities, or place a recovery well directly in a pipe chase or tank pit. Spoils are simultaneously collected by a high volume vacuum method, often loaded directly in drums for disposal.

We are dedicated to your success and committed to partnerships that produce value for your business.
